The effects of interior design made with digital visualization tools and applications on users perceptional performance

This study focuses on designs produced by using digital visualization tools and the effects of this applications on the perceptional performance of users. The aim of this study is to determine the differences between the space visuals produced by using digital techniques and the new appearances emerged after their applications, after the applications and also to designate the reasons of these differences. For this purpose, ten different locations which are designed and produced by interior architecture offices operating in Konya were selected. The experiment was carried out with 148 university students and ensured this subjects to evaluate the perceptual differences between digital and real spaces. As a result of the research, it has been found that the most frequently used effects (wide angle, light intensity and lighting) and design preferences (reinforcement / accessory, material / surface coating and color) are mostly prefered to show the spaces more effectively when producing space images with digital techniques. It is determined that the spaces where visualizations are made cannot have the same perceptual effect after they are actually applied. However, it was seen that individuals taking undergraduate education evaluated the real and digital spaces more negatively than the individuals who received an associate degree education and the individuals evaluated the spaces more critically as the training period increased. In addition, it is determined that women evaluate places more negatively than men.
