Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) Use Policy
IDA: International Design and Art Journal is committed to the transparent, responsible and ethical use of artificial intelligence tools. This policy is based on the principles of COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) and is updated as necessary.
1. Authorship and Disclosure
- AI tools are not listed as authors or co-authors.
- Authors are responsible for the entire content of the manuscript, including any parts produced with AI tools.
- Disclosure is not required when AI tools are used for grammar, spelling or style editing, or for translation of the authors’ own text. All other uses must be disclosed. This applies to references, text, images, code, data analysis and any other type of content.
- The disclosure is included both on the title page and in the manuscript. If the use is part of the research methodology, it is described in the Methods section. Otherwise, it is stated at the end of the manuscript under the heading “Generative AI Use Statement”, without any information that may reveal the authors’ identity.
- The disclosure names the tool in APA 7 format and briefly explains the purpose of use.
- AI tools are not cited as sources of information. Authors verify all information and references against the original sources.
The following uses are prohibited:
- Submitting text that contains fabricated references, incorrect content or plagiarism
- Generating or altering research data with AI, or using AI in place of participants in qualitative research
- Uploading participants’ personal data to AI tools without ethics committee approval or in breach of the Turkish Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698 (KVKK)
2. Figures
- Figures, designs, and artworks generated or substantially altered with AI cannot be presented as original work or research findings without disclosure. For illustrative figures (diagrams, infographics, illustrations, etc.), the tool is credited in the figure caption in APA 7 format.
- In studies where AI is the subject of the research, AI-generated figures may be used as research data. In such cases, the tool, version, date of use and prompts are described in the Methods section.
- Authors are responsible for complying with the terms of use of the tools and with the copyright and licensing rights of the generated content.
3. Reviewers and Editors
- Manuscripts under review are confidential. No part of a manuscript may be uploaded to AI tools.
- Subject to this condition, reviewers may use AI tools when writing or formatting their reports. Reviewers are responsible for the content of their reports.
- Reviewers who suspect inappropriate or undisclosed AI use in a manuscript report this to the editor.
- Editorial decisions and decision letters are not generated with AI.
If a use that violates this policy is identified, the manuscript may be rejected at any stage of the process, or the review report may be disregarded. Violations identified after publication are investigated in accordance with COPE guidelines, and a correction or retraction is issued where necessary.
